The Path I walk

Here you will find a little more about me, the spiritual path I am on, and some of the sources I use.
This page will always be under construction and I am sure to be full of mistakes so please bear with me.
I was raised in basically a Christian home. I was 10 when my dad passed. Not long after, my mom joined a local Catholic church. Well, I knew it wasn't my path but I went along with it. I was only a kid, but understood her need to belong and to find others for comfort and strength. I was afraid to ask any questions for a long time about any other paths. To do so was of course considered a sin so I kept my questions and beliefs to myself.
It was not until I was older when I started learning about the Pagan paths, specifically Wiccan. The more I began to learn, the more it felt like the Path I have always been on, but didn't know it. Some may ask, what is Pagan, or what is Wicca? If you ask ten Pagans what it means to them to be Pagan, you will most likely get ten different answers. All I can do is tell you a little of what it means to me and some of what I have learned about its history. I am not going to go into too much detail because there are several books and other sources out there that have good information in them.
First off, if someone is Pagan, they are not automatically Wiccan but if they are Wiccan then they are pretty much Pagan. Another example would be, not all Christians are Catholic, but all Catholics are Christian.
Paganism is very Earth or Nature based. The belief that every living thing has an energy or life force and should be treated with respect. This includes the Earth itself. That may be where the term “Tree Hugging Dirt Worshiper” comes from. We see all of life as sacred.
There is also the belief that there are many Deities, not just one as there is in certain spiritual beliefs. Many believe that just as it is nature, there is a male and female Deity, or a God and Goddess. This can be traced back over 50,000 years ago to early tribal cultures.
We believe in Magick and it's power. That’s not to say we expect to cast a spell and have a gold bar drop out of the sky and land at our feet... oh how cool would that be.. We do believe that we can bring about change in the world through the use of Magick and there are several types. Not Magic like you see on TV or at a circus. Many of us pray just as others do but we call it Magick. Just as some may go into a Church to light a candle and pray for a sick loved one, we may do pretty much the same thing at a shrine, or in our backyard. Oh, just a little food for thought, on a birthday have you ever made a wish and blown out a candle hoping to bring about something you want? That’s Magick. Another type can be called Kitchen Magick. An example would be, say you have a friend who is not feeling well so you bake them a pie. You baked it with love so you have put yourself into that pie. When you give it to a friend, hopefully it makes them feel better. There is also healing Magick. Today we know a lot of the science behind why certain herbs and plants help us to heal and stay healthy, but think about it. A few hundred years ago, something as simple as putting Aloe on a wound to help it heal was considered Magick or Witchcraft.
We see ourselves as equals, no more or less than anyone else and all we ask is that we be treated fairly and be allowed to worship in peace like any other spiritual belief. For thousands of years, Pagans were driven underground. They were made to convert or were slaughtered. It wasn’t until just recently that many of us could openly state our beliefs for fear of persecution. Sadly there is still so much discrimination that many have lost their jobs, their kids, been beaten and even killed because of their beliefs. With all that I sometimes find it really curious how so many people practice Pagan traditions that have survived through the years and they do not realize it. From something as simple as blowing out a birthday candle, to holiday traditions such as decorating eggs for Easter, and putting up a tree at Christmas.
Well, I know I have left a bunch out, but I didn't want to give anyone information overload. I know that I have a lot to learn, but I am looking forward to the journey.
Thank you for stopping by.
Blessed Be!
